Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) is jumping into what is shaping into a very competitive race between Congressional Democrats for the coveted position of Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus in the next Congress.
Sanchez has been floating her plans among colleagues recently, Politico reported. Fellow California Rep. Barbara Lee declared her intention to seek the post about a week ago.
Earlier this year Sanchez, who chairs the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), called the Republican quest for answers in the 2012 Benghazi terror scandal a “quest to catch this mythical unicorn.” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) appointed Sanchez to the Select Committee on Benghazi. Breitbart News reported her characterization of the scandal as a “nefarious conspiracy.”
Last Jul,y Sanchez lashed out against Americans that propose returning illegal aliens to their home countries, calling them names like “nativists” and “isolationists” while promoting “comprehensive immigration reform,” Breitbart News reported. That same month Sanchez, and the majority of the CHC leadership lobbied DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson to halt deportations while they worked to pass “immigration reform” a release from Sanchez noted.
Sanchez won a position on the high profile Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) in 2015. She also sits on the House Ways and Means Committee and Committee on Ethics.
Lee introduced House Concurrent Resolution 29 in March. According to Breitbart News, the measure correlates global warming with women being pressured into “sex work, transactional sex, and early marriage that put them at risk for HIV, STIs, unplanned pregnancy, and poor reproductive health.”
New York Rep. Joe Crowley will vacate the Vice Chair position due to a term limit. Politico notes that Crowley is slated to ascend to a higher rank.
