Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI) might have filed on Tuesday with the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) to run for President, Breitbart News has learned.
Maybe.
Scott Walker is a common name. We can’t confirm that the Wisconsin Governor filed this paperwork. But we do know that at least one man named “Scott Walker” will bid to be your next president.
A search for Walker’s name on the FEC’s website, www.fec.gov, revealed that a candidate application has been filed for “Scott Walker” to run for the office designated as “P-President” in 2016.
The metadata on the filing indicates that it was done on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at 22:28:59 GMT, or Greenwich Mean Time. This would be just before 6:30 pm Eastern Time. The address listed is Chesapeake, Virginia, a suburb not far from Washington, D.C.
No financial reports or other documents have been filed, indicating that this was done with a paper filing. Paper filings aren’t necessarily unusual; former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL) filed his Statement of Candidacy in a hand-delivered paper form.
So, if a paper document was hand-delivered at the end of the business day, it would explain the incomplete information available. Presumably, the rest of the information would be uploaded Wednesday morning.
Part of the missing information includes the party affiliation; it currently says “NONE.” However, this may also indicate that this is a different “Scott Walker” who will join the many novelty candidates who run for President every cycle.
This is an official filing to run for President of the United States, which is done under penalty of perjury. An election law expert familiar with FEC procedures and rules told Breitbart News that if this was not done at Gov. Scott Walker’s direction, or by someone who is actually named Scott Walker, it would be a felony, for making false statements under oath in this filing.
Sources had previously told Breitbart News that Walker would be entering the presidential race in July, after the Wisconsin legislative session ended. This filing may indicate that Walker is considering moving up that timetable. Or, then again, it could mean that another guy named Scott Walker was inspired by Donald Trump’s announcement today and decided to throw his hat in the ring too.
Breitbart News reached out to several contacts close to Walker to confirm or deny this filing was actually by the Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker. At least one of the messages was received, but as of press time, there has not been a confirmation — or denial — that this is the real Walker.
Breitbart News will update this story as soon as we either receive a response from the Walker camp or the FEC.
