On June 5 a man and woman walked out of Shells restaurant in Tampa, Florida, and were allegedly confronted by two teens–one of whom was armed–demanding the couple hand over money and cell phones. The man pulled his concealed carry handgun and shot the teen who was holding the gun.
The incident occurred just after dinner.
According to My Fox Tampa Bay, Tampa Police Lt. Michael Stout said the two teens–Reginald Smith and Jeremiah Walker–“literally sprinted up to the bushes to [the man], closing that distance very rapidly, pointing that firearm right at him” as he walked out.
The couple handed over their money and phones, then the woman turned and ran back toward the restaurant. When she did, Reginald Smith allegedly pointed the gun at her. That is when the man pulled his own gun and shot Smith.
Jeremiah Walker fled once the concealed carry permit holder opened fire, but Smith could not run, as had been shot in the leg.
Smith and Walker dropped the phones and all the money they had taken from the couple.
After investigating the incident police said the gun Smith allegedly held was a “replica” from which the orange tip at the end of the barrel had been removed. Both teens “are facing armed robbery charges.”
