On Friday’s “Morning Joe” on MSNBC, former Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) made an appearance on the heels of his presidential announcement a day earlier and discussed his candidacy for the Republican 2016 nomination.
During the discussion on the program, Perry explained that despite his missteps during the 2012 race for the GOP nomination, he could “recast” himself and cited former President Bill Clinton’s rebranding for the 1992 presidential campaign after his infamous less-than-stellar effort at the 1988 Democratic National Convention in Atlanta, GA.
“[A]nyone who has done this more than once is recasting themselves,” Perry said. “I’m pretty sure that Bill Clinton had to recast himself after his rather disastrous speech at the Democratic convention. So everyone does that. We’ve spent a lot of time in preparation for this moment. I knew that if i was going to be a legitimate candidate, give myself an opportunity to be successful, I had to spend substantial time in preparation on monetary policy, domestic policy, on foreign policy. We’ve done that. I’m ready to stand on the stage.”
