Real estate mogul and reality television star Donald Trump, who’s presumably getting ready to announce a run for the presidency on June 16, hammered Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News.
“Rubio is weak on immigration and he’s weak on jobs,” Trump said, recalling how Rubio still stands by every last thing that was in the “Gang of Eight” amnesty bill passed last Congress.
Rubio is actually the only Republican running for president—other than Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who’s polling so low he is unlikely to even make the debate stage—who still supports giving illegal aliens citizenship. Bush has flip-flopped on that. He used to support citizenship for illegal aliens, but Rubio is the only viable GOP presidential candidate who supports such drastic measures that are in line with Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton’s viewpoints on immigration.
“We need someone who is going to make the country great again, and Rubio is not going to make the country great again—and neither is Bush,” Trump told Breitbart News.
Trump also ripped Bush for saying that if voters select him as the nation’s next president, he’d choose to weave a “web of civility” with Democrats in Congress. Bush made the comments on a conference call with the Alabama Republican Party.
“The last thing we need is another Bush,” Trump said.
Those are just the words of a politician—a ‘web of civility’—think about what that means. A ‘web of civility’? I get along with everybody, I’ve always gotten along with everybody. I’d weave a web of success for our country, not ‘civility.’ I’d have a web of success. I’d take back our jobs from other countries that are stealing our manufacturing jobs—I would be the greatest jobs president in history, and I would be the greatest security president in history.
As Bush fails to gain traction on the campaign trail–he seems to largely be a non-starter among most of the Republican base–the GOP establishment and donor class is looking to Rubio, who’s identical to or more liberal than Bush on many things, including immigration and foreign policy, to pick up the slack.
On immigration, should he become president, Trump said he’d make Mexico pay to build a wall on the border—a wall like nobody’s seen before.
“I would build a wall and nobody can build a wall like Trump can build a wall. I build some of the greatest buildings in the world,” Trump said. “I would build a wall that people would not penetrate, and I would supplement that wall with military—and no illegals would come into this country. None. Zero. I would have Mexico—Mexico would pay for that wall because Mexico is doing a number on us unlike anyone other than China.”
Trump’s big announcement will be at Trump Tower in New York City on June 16.
“We’re going to make the announcement Trump Tower at 11 o’clock on June 16 and we’re going to be letting everyone know what I’m going to be doing and my intentions and I think a lot of people are going to be very happy,” Trump said. “It’s going to be a big announcement so we’ll see how it’s received. I look forward to it.”
Trump adds his message would be simple:
My whole thing is make America great again. Politicians are all talk, no action. They don’t know what they’re doing. Our country is going to hell, and my theme is make America great again. The American dream is dead and I will bring it back stronger than ever before.
Trump has surprised some in the political class by polling well. A recent Quinnipiac University poll shows a wide open Republican field, with Bush, Rubio, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Dr. Ben Carson and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee all tied in the lead with 10 percent. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) gets 7 percent, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) gets 6 percent and Trump gets 5 percent—besting New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s 4 percent, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina’s and Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s tie for 2 percent. That means Trump is in the top 10, and would likely make the debate stage later this year—while others, including Graham, likely wouldn’t make it.
