On his Wednesday radio broadcast, conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh cited an interview between CBN’s David Brody and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), a candidate for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, in which Rubio suggested Christianity was under assault and pointed to some of the Obama administration’s policies to back up his claim.
Limbaugh acknowledged Rubio’s claim, but took a step further by saying the left, represented by the Obama administration in Rubio’s case, is challenging all organized religion with the exception of Islam, to which Limbaugh argued was because militant Islam shared the goal of defeating Christianity with the American left.
“[I] think mainstream Christianity is the target and has been for I can’t tell you how long – before I was born,” Limbaugh said. “Christianity has been the biggest enemy of the American left or any left. Organized religion in general, but Christianity is the number one enemy of these people. You notice they’ve made friends with militant Islam. The left will not stand for any criticism of militant Islam, right? You start drawing cartoons of the prophet, they’re the first to jump on your case, right? Democrats and the left – they’re out condemning any criticism of Islam, right? They’ve saddled up.”
“Well, Islam has an enemy,” he continued. “In their mind, their enemy is Christianity, so there is a commonality there. Folks, maybe this is one of those things you’re not supposed to say. But I’m sorry, it’s undeniable. OK, tell me I’m wrong when I say the left has formed an accord with Islam. Tell me I’m wrong. Militant Islam – you can’t draw pictures of the Prophet Mohammed. Democrat Party – you can’t draw pictures of the Prophet Mohammed. You can’t criticize Islam and they go out of their way not to. You can’t call them terrorist. You know the drill. Christianity, it’s open season. You can say anything. You can do anything. You can mock anything. And Christians are just supposed to take it.”
