Tuesday on Fox News Channel’s “The Five,” co-host Greg Gutfeld discussed a new Gallup poll showing 60 percentof all Americans, regardless of party affiliation, now support same-sex marriage, and told the Republican Party, “you have to understand that time has moved on.” He went on to suggest the GOP adopt a platform that says, “We don’t care who you sleep with anymore. We don’t care what you smoke in the privacy of your own home. We care that you’re safe and prosperous.”
Gutfeld said, “The GOP has to define who they are, not just who they’re up against. And I think what we should hear is what could unify a country, rather than divide people by gender, orientation or race. And that is focusing on protecting the freedoms that allow us to live our lives safely and freely and allow us to marry whoever we want to marry and do whatever we want to do, by focusing on national security. The world is a mess and the Republican party will offer you a real honest-to-God force field against the dangers around the world. We don’t care who you sleep with anymore. We don’t care what you smoke in the privacy of your own home. We care that you’re safe and prosperous. That rises above all the gender—all the race. National security is the only way to go for the Republicans.”
The liberal panelist, Julie Roginsky, pointed out, “Interesting you say that. Gallup poll just came out, 60 percent across the party lines support same-sex marriage.”
In reference to presidential candidate former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR), who defended reality star Josh Duggar over allegations of child molestation, Gutfeld continued, “I agree with you. You have to choose your battles. You have to understand that time has moved on and you don’t go around defending the Duggar family when you have bigger issues going on.”
