A man from Spring, Texas has been arrested by federal agents on charges of attempting to travel to the Middle East to join the terror group ISIS.
Asher Abid Khan is expected to go before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Houston on Tuesday, where he will be formally charged with one count of conspiracy to support a terrorist organization, information released to Breitbart Texas by the U.S. Attorney’s Office revealed.
The criminal complaint alleges that Khan and a friend planned to travel to Turkey, and then to Syria, in order to join ISIS and wage jihad.
According to information provided by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Khan had allegedly asked a Turkish terrorist fighter, “I wanna join ISIS can you help?”
“I wanna die as a Shaheed (martyr),” he allegedly stated to another correspondent.
Khan’s friend is believed to have made it to Syria and to ISIS with his help, while Khan was living in Australia with a relative before making his way to Turkey. Khan never made it to the Islamic State — his family sent him false information about his mother’s death, prompting him to return to Texas, where he was arrested.
If convicted, Khan faces up to 15-years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
