A new Field Poll shows that among the limited number of Californians who are likely to participate in next year’s primary elections, 19% prefer Attorney General Kamala Harris to replace outgoing Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA)–which is enough to lead the race.
Harris’s most prominent rival, fellow Democrat Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-CA), captures 8% of the vote. Nearly 60% of voters suggest they have no preference as to which candidate wins.
The poll was carried out by Mark DiCamillo and Mervin Field between April 23-May 16, 2015 among a random sample of 1,664 California adults.
Republican Assemblyman Rocky Chavez (R-Oceanside) trailed at 6%, followed by GOP Chairman Tom Del Beccaro, who polled at 5%.
