Carly Fiorina—the only female GOP presidential candidate—fired back after Fox News announced its criteria for candidates in the upcoming presidential debate.
Carly posted on Twitter: “Glad @FoxNews released metrics for 1st debate. I’ll look forward to making the cut and making my case to GOP voters on Aug 6th.”
Fiorina’s spokesperson Sarah Isgur Flores also took to Twitter, saying, “@CarlyFiorina has exceeded expectations her whole life. See you in Cleveland! #GOPDebate.”
Fox News announced a partnership with Facebook for the first GOP primary debate on August 6th in Cleveland.
Criteria for candidates to make the debate stage were outlined by Fox News on Wednesday, saying candidates, “Must place in the top 10 of an average of the five most recent national polls, as recognized by Fox News leading up to August 4th at 5 PM/ET. Such polling must be conducted by organizations that use standard methodological techniques.”
Many—including Dr. Ben Carson—have criticized the RNC’s poll requirements for GOP candidates to take part in primary debates, as Breitbart News first reported. Carson wrote a letter voicing his concerns, specifically naming Carly Fiorina as a candidate that is valuable to the party and should not be excluded from the debates because of poll numbers.
Carly For America Executive Director Steve DeMaura also released a statement following the Fox News announcement:
We are confident that Carly’s growing momentum and support will meet and exceed whatever inclusion criteria Fox News and the RNC set. Fox News has deep political expertise and we are hopeful that whatever criteria they settle on will accurately reflect both the state of the race and the realities of the nominating contest. The more people learn about Carly and her business, non-profit and personal experience, as well as her ideas to reinvent government, the more they express their desire for her to lead our country.
He continued, “We believe that the criteria used to select debate inclusion should be reflective of how our party’s nominee will eventually be chosen. The path to the Republican nomination begins in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. The voters of those states should be the ones narrowing the Republican field of candidates.”
Fox News anchors Megyn Kelly, Chris Wallace, and Bret Baier will be hosting the debate.
