On May 23, gun control proponents Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly will be giving the convocation address at Cornell University as part of the school’s 147th graduation.

According to the Cornell Chronicle, Giffords and Kelly will speak at noon at Schoellkopf Stadium.

Breitbart News previously reported that Giffords and Kelly will be speaking on Class Day at Harvard Law School on May 27, despite a track record of loss on the gun control front.

The duo pushed Senator Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) gun control bill in April 2013, but it was defeated. They spent 2013 pressing for the bill to be brought up again; it never was.

In 2014, through their Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC, the duo spent millions endorsing gun control candidates who got decimated in the midterms. As a microcosm of the losses, Giffords’ former seat–Arizona Disrict 2–was taken from gun control Representative Ron Barber (D-AZ-2nd District) and handed to pro-Second Amendment Representative Martha McSally (R-AZ-2nd District).

In the lead-up to the elections, Giffords took a nine-state gun control tour, which was so poorly attended that she held meetings in classrooms and libraries instead of arenas and auditoriums. Candidates largely refused to meet with her when she came to their states because of the toxic political ramifications of being seen with her.

The AP reported, “Not a single candidate in this year’s midterm elections for statewide or federal office appeared with Giffords.”

Giffords reemerged from 2014’s losses and the disappointing gun control tour to call for a renewed push for Manchin’s gun control legislation on March 4. Standing with gun control Representative Mike Thompson (D-CA-5th District), Giffords contended that every gun purchaser should have to pass the same background check that her attacker, Jared Loughner, passed to get his gun.

The new push has gotten no traction whatsoever. Nonetheless, Giffords will be addressing graduates at Cornell on May 23.
