Scott Walker on Iraq: ‘Knowing What We Know Now, We Should Not Have Gone In.’

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, a likely but as yet undeclared contestant for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, is the latest to comment on the Iraq war. On his Facebook page he writes:

Any president would have likely taken the same action President Bush did with the information he had, even Hillary Clinton voted for it, but knowing what we know now, we should not have gone into Iraq. President Bush deserves enormous credit for ordering the surge, a courageous move that worked.

Unfortunately, President Obama and Secretary Clinton hastily withdrew our troops, threw away the gains of the surge, and embarked on a broader policy of pivoting away from the Middle East and leading from behind that has created chaos in the region.

Walker’s statement is clearly a response to the “would you have voted for invading Iraq?” question the media seems determined to ask every Republican candidate, but not the Democrat who actually did vote for the Iraq war, Hillary Clinton.

The press smelled blood in the water after Jeb Bush effectively self-destructed over the question, and has lately been working up a “flip-flop” charge against Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL). No doubt reporters would like to hammer Walker with it as well, as soon as they finish writing their latest batch of checks to the Clinton Foundation.

Turning the question back against Obama and his former Secretary of State, in the very hour that ISIS took the Iraqi city of Ramadi, is going to make Democrats angry.

Governor Walker has a knack for doing that.
