Former Governor Rick Perry (R-TX) is planning to launch his presidential campaign in Dallas on June 4th, according to an email sent by RickPAC, a political action committee that is supporting him.

The email included a message from Perry’s wife Anita, inviting recipients to join her and the Governor in Dallas for a “major announcement” on June 4th:

America is facing a time of testing, and it’s clear that we need principled leadership and an optimistic vision to see us through after eight years of the Obama Administration.

Rick and I have been talking a lot about what the future holds for our great country, and the role our family can play in creating an America of unlimited opportunity for our children and grandchildren.

We are so excited to share our decision with you, and hope you will join us on June 4th in Dallas for a major announcement!

In case you missed it, you can find more details here. Rick and I look forward to seeing you in Dallas on June 4th!

Thanks for all you do,

Anita Perry

The Eventbrite link in the email indicates that the event will be held 11:30 am until 1:00 pm Central Time, but does not yet have a specific location in Dallas.

Federal campaign finance laws impose reporting requirements and prohibit coordination between candidates and their PACs. Perry will be able to continue working with RickPAC and helping its fundraising efforts until he officially announces he is running, so until that time, he will continue to refer to the June 4th event in vague terms like this email does with inviting people to a “major announcement.”

Perry previously ran for the Republican nomination for President in 2012. A top contender when he first entered the race, his polling numbers plummeted after a series of debate missteps in the fall of 2011, and he dropped out of the race at the beginning of 2012.

This time around, Perry supporters have been quick to point out that he is in excellent health, unlike the 2012 campaign where he entered the race while still recuperating from back surgery, and has spent the past few years engaged in serious study with a long list of policy advisers.

Perry’s successor, Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX), will not be endorsing in the primary, an understandable decision with many candidates or likely candidates having ties to Texas, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL) and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, both of whom were born in Texas, and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who grew up near Houston.

“It’s been a privilege to work alongside both Governor Perry and Senator Cruz,” Abbott told Breitbart Texas, “and I consider both to be conservative leaders as well as friends — and I’ll always be the first to caution anyone against underestimating a Texan.”
