Thursday at the House minority leader’s weekly briefing, when asked about Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) announcing he will seek the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said it is “healthy” for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to have competition and the Democratic Party to have a bench.
The normally staunch Hillary supporter, who said in 2013, “I pray that Hillary Clinton decides to run for president,” said today,” The fact is I think it’s healthy for a party to have an exchange of ideas—to have a bench.”
Pelosi added, “I don’t think anybody who is running for president should fear having someone else run for president, so they can engage in the marketplace of ideas, which is what an elections are all about.”
