As Baltimore fills the media with its tales of rioting and protests, Chicago remains a shooting gallery with another 21 shootings and four deaths over the weekend.
Maryland’s largest city erupted in violence on Saturday and Sunday as protesters took to the streets to protest the death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old man who died from injuries sustained while in police custody.
But even as residents of Baltimore protest police violence in their city, Chicago has continued to see mounting casualties of its own violence, nearly all of which has been committed by the city’s gang members.
Baltimore has seen its share of gang violence, with 65 homicides thus far for 2015. But Chicago has far outpaced Baltimore, with 340 shootings and 102 deaths.
This weekend was no exception to the continuing death toll in the Windy City.
There were 21 shootings over the weekend, with four killed and 17 wounded, including a 13-year-old boy.
As is always the case, the first fatal shooting occurred Friday morning. This time it was a 26-year-old Marquette Park man who was fatally wounded by two men who ran up behind him and opened fire.
A second person was murdered by Friday evening, a woman who had been standing with several male friends outside a house party in Princeton Park.
A 20-year-old and an 18-year old man were also killed over the weekend.
