Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley picked up a Hollywood endorsement on the red carpet ahead of the White House Correspondents’s Association dinner on Saturday.
Timothy Simons, who plays political aide Jonah Ryan on HBO’s Veep, told Bloomberg Politics that he supports O’Malley over Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential race, while O’Malley stood right beside him on the red carpet.
“I’m for Martin O’Malley,” Simons told Bloomberg reporter Mark Halperin.
HBO’s political comedy series films in Maryland, and O’Malley has previously visited the set. In April of last year, O’Malley tweeted out an old Instagram photo with Simons.
“How are things going on the campaign trail? We never get to see you,” Halperin pressed the presumed Democratic candidate.
“They’re going great,” O’Malley replied. “I was in South Carolina this morning, at a big convention down there. People are excited, they want to have a robust debate in our Party, and I was in California before that. So stay tuned, I’ll make up my mind in the next month.”
During the WHCA dinner, SNL star Cecily Strong took a shot at O’Malley’s as-yet-unannounced candidacy.
“Let’s not forget Martin O’Malley,” Strong told the media and celebrities gathered at the Washington Hilton. “I don’t have anything to add, that’s just his actual campaign slogan: ‘Let’s not forget Martin O’Malley.'”
