During a presidential trip to the Everglades, President Obama explained that it was time for Americans to stop denying climate change.
“Climate change can no longer be denied,” he said. “It can’t be edited out, can’t be omitted from the conversation.”
After nearly five hours of travel from the White House, Obama delivered about a 14 minute speech in the Everglades to warn Americans about the dangers of Climate Change. Obama traveled to the location aboard Air Force One, helicopters, and finally a Chevrolet Suburban SUV to reach his destination.
Obama admitted that last Winter was “cold,” especially in Washington, D.C., recalling when Republican Jim Inhofe threw a snowball in the Senate Chamber to make a point that global warming was a hoax.
He also alluded to reports that the Florida Department of Environmental Protection was instructed not to use the term climate change.
“[S]imply refusing to use the words ‘climate change’ doesn’t mean climate change isn’t happening,” Obama declared.
Florida Governor Rick Scott declined a White House invitation to meet President Obama during his trip.
During his speech, Obama vowed that he would continue to do everything he could to “prepare and protect America from the worst effects of climate change.”
“If you’ve got a coming storm, you don’t stick your head in the sand, you prepare for the storm,” he said.
“Let’s stand up and do what’s right before it’s too late,” he concluded.
