White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest repeatedly dodged questions about whether he agreed with Hillary Clinton’s assessment that the economy has “stalled out” on Tuesday.
At first, Earnest said that he didn’t see “the entirety” of Hillary’s remarks, but “there is more that we can do here in Washington to put in place policies that will further strengthen job creation in our economy.”
After the questioner, Jon Karl, followed-up, Earnest expressed doubt that “stalled out” was a direct quotation. When it turned out that it was, Earnest re-iterated his first answer that there was more Washington could do. After Karl asked a fourth time, Earnest finally stated, “we’ll take a look at the statistics and get back to you.”
