Group Claimed Teacher Called Islam An ‘Ideology of War,’ Now Says There Was A Misunderstanding

The organization that argued that a Texas high school teacher gave students an anti-Islam handout in class is now saying, “there may have been a misunderstanding.”

At a school board meeting Tuesday night, students and parents voiced their concerns and support for the teacher. One parent said the handout instructed students to correct misinformation on it about Islam.

Ruth Nasrullah with CAIR, the organization that originally complained about the handout, told Fox 26 KTRK, “I have not met him and I can’t speak to his character, but I am sure having heard the comments tonight, he is a good man of character, and you’re right, there may have been a misunderstanding, but we need to make sure there is a correct interpretation of Islam.”

The teacher issued an emailed statement to a local radio show host earlier this week. The teacher wrote, “I have spent my entire career no matter what I was teaching or where I was at pushing the envelope of education.  The last decade I have witnessed a steady decline of student interest in the world around them.  They are simply disconnected and disinterested,” explaining his teaching style.

Towards the end of the email, the teacher wrote, “I resigned effective on the last day of my contract to hopefully protect my students both current and former.”

However, the school district would not confirm to Breitbart News if the teacher has in fact resigned. Furthermore, the school board refused to answer that question at Tuesday’s meeting.
