Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) said that Marco Rubio’s ability to connect his audience to the American dream would be a “real advantage to him as a presidential candidate” on Monday’s broadcast of “The Rundown with Jose Diaz-Balart” on MSNBC.
Lee stated that while he believes the election should be more “policies than the personalities,” he likes all three of the GOP Senators running for president, and won’t issue an endorsement at this time, “Marco [Rubio] speaks with passion, and he speaks in a way that invites the audience in, and invites the audience in in an emotional way that connects them to the American dream, and I think that’s going to be a real advantage to him as a presidential candidate.”
He added that the 2016 election is “going to be about policy. It’s going to be about an agenda, and whether or not Secretary Clinton has that right balance of policy and agenda and resume is a very different question than just whether or not she’s got an impressive resume.”
Lee also said that criticism of the Iran framework, “has to do with a growing fear on the part of many, not just in the United States Senate, not just in Congress, but throughout America, who fear what the president’s negotiating will not provide verifiable benchmarks, will not be enforceable, and will not hold Iran accountable. Now look, I’d love to be proven wrong on that, I really would, but so far, we’re not seeing any indication that that’s what’s coming, and that’s where this concern is growing from, and it’s not, as the president would like to have other people believe, about partisan politics. That’s not our concern here. Our concern is with American national security, and nothing less.”
