The CEO of Angie’s List doubled down on his opposition to the “fix” announced yesterday morning in the religious freedom debate in Indiana.
After intense pressure from a potent combination of gay lobby/big business/mainstream media, the Indiana legislature added language making it clear that businesses and individuals could not use a religious freedom defense in turning away a gay wedding. What’s more the “fix” says Christians could go to jail for turning away gay wedding business.
That is not enough for Angie’s List CEO Bill Oesterle, who says the “fix” does not go far enough. He wants “sexual orientation and gender identity” to become new categories of non-discrimination in hiring and housing, something only afforded in 18 other states, laws that have been used to privilege LGBTs over against Christians and to silence Christians in the workplace.
In making his announcement though, Oesterle, said, “There was no repeal of RFRA and no end to discrimination of homosexuals in Indiana.” Oesterle is not up on his nomenclature. LGBT’s find the term “homosexual” to be offensive, even pejorative.
The New York Times and the leading LGBT magazine in the country reported last year,
To most ears, it probably sounds inoffensive. A little outdated and clinical, perhaps, but innocuous enough: homosexual.
“But that five-syllable word has never been more loaded, more deliberately used and, to the ears of many gays and lesbians, more pejorative.
The question for Oesterle is — in the words of The Advocate — why does he still cling to the word homosexual, and does he really want his Christian employees silenced at work?
