In an exclusive statement emailed to Breitbart News, Rep. Louie Gohmert says he’s worried about President Barack Obama’s forthcoming Iran nuclear arms deal.
“The question should not be whether another false deadline is reached, but rather over the value of a deal between negotiating parties whose word has proven meaningless,” the Texas Republican says.
The Congressman compared President Reagan’s negotiations with the Soviet Union to that of the Obama administration with Iran.
“It should be remembered that the greatest international accomplishment of the Reagan Administration came after President Reagan walked away from negotiations in Iceland, despite the media hellfire that came against him,” Gohmert added, “Reagan stood on principle and won. Unfortunately, principle to stand on for our current administration is foreign territory.”
Sen. Tom Cotton also released a statement following the State Department’s decision to again extend the nuclear negotiations with Iran.
“The decision to extend the nuclear negotiations in the face of Iranian intransigence and duplicity proves once again that Iran is calling the shots,” the Arkansas Republican says.
Just weeks ago President Obama said “I don’t see a further extension being useful.” And today the State Department admitted that “there are several difficult issues still remaining” in the negotiations. Given the dangerous concessions by the Obama administration over the past week, one can only imagine what further concessions it will make in the next 24 hours to resolve these issues.
Sen. Cotton also said the best solution is to walk away from the negotiations and return to a position of strength.
“We should reinstate existing sanctions suspended under the Joint Plan of Action and Congress should act immediately to impose new sanctions. It’s time for the United States to regain the upper hand and quit negotiating out of weakness,” he added.
