With state Republican lawmakers pushing Campus, Constitutional, and Open Carry around the country, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Representative Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) have introduced legislation to restore the exercise of Second Amendment rights to DC residents.
Titled the Second Amendment Protection Act of 2015, the legislation would not only restore “fundamental” rights suppressed through years of Democrat regulations but would also allow DC residents to purchase firearms from retail gun stores in Maryland and Virginia.
According to NRA-ILA, the bill would also open the door to purchases apart “from DC’s onerous firearms registration system.”
The Second Amendment Protect Act would “streamline” the concealed carry permitting system in DC, making it easier for residents to legally carry a gun to defend their lives and the lives of their families.
To date, the Democrat-controlled DC City Council and Mayoral office have made the exercise of Second Amendment rights so burdensome that the risk of trying to lawfully own a gun frightens law-abiding citizens from even beginning the process for doing so. The Second Amendment Protection Act is an attempt to do away with these burdens.
