Governor Chris Christie is in no hurry to announce his decision regarding a run for president in 2016, even as other Republican candidates are preparing to announce their intentions in April.
During a town hall meeting in Whippany, New Jersey, Christie admitted that he might wait as late as early summer.
“We’re in the process of making that decision,” Christie said after a participant in the event asked about his intentions. “And I’ll make a decision by late spring early summer on what I’m going to do.”
Christie spoke at the Iowa Ag Summit in Des Moines, Iowa earlier this month as well as the Iowa Freedom Summit in January. He only recently confirmed an appearance for the New Hampshire Republican Leadership summit in April.
Behind the scenes, Christie has been traveling to several states for fundraisers for his Leadership Matters for America PAC. On Thursday, he is scheduled to travel to Texas for a fundraiser as well as a Lincoln Day dinner speech in Michigan.
A recent CNN poll showed that Christie had a 44 percent unfavorable rating with only 25 percent approving. The poll also showed that among Republicans, Christie was in sixth place with only seven percent support from those polled.
Christie promised the attendees of the town hall that he had no intention to run for any other office in New Jersey.
“I can’t imagine myself doing any other one in public life inside the state,” he said.
He also asserted that when he was ready to run, the world would know.
“You know me; I’m not a wallflower once I make up my mind I’ll let you all know,” he said.
