On Wednesday, members of a Wisconsin group backed by the National Education Association (NEA) were caught on video toting a hateful banner charging that “all cops are bastards” at a protest in Madison.
After protesting police violence in Milwaukee, the group Wisconsin Jobs Now (WJN) bussed supporters to Madison to mount another protest where, just a few days earlier, a local police officer shot and killed a man who police allege was attacking the officer.
The NEA heavily funded the WJN to the tune of about $125,000. According to financial reports, the substantial teachers’ union donation and one by the liberal Service Employee International Union was the only income that WJN reported for all of 2014.
Along with the “All Cops Are Bastards” banner, WJN protesters were caught on video screaming “Hey-hey, ho-ho, these racist cops have got to go.”
A representative of WJN insists that a mysterious “outsider” brought the banner and claimed that they weren’t responsible for it.
“None of our members brought it to the event. It was, in fact, brought by individuals unaffiliated with us, and those individuals were asked to remove that sign from the action so that our message wouldn’t be compromised,” WJN communications director Lisa Lucas claimed.
