On March 17, Think Progress chastised the GOP for supporting the use guns to stop campus rape and sexual assault.
They did this by claiming that allowing women to carry guns will simply mean more rape—as if their attackers are currently waiting for the carrying of guns to become legal—and they also suggested that women may not feel up to the task of carrying a gun to begin with.
Think Progress’s exact words: “It’s not clear that college women will actually feel comfortable wielding a firearm against one of their friends.”
Hmmm… since when should a woman consider a rapist a friend?
This is indicative of the desperation the anti-gunners are currently wallowing in. Campus carry is already legal in seven states and legislation to legalize it in 14 others is now in the spotlight. And in all 14 states, the argument is the same—arming women for self-defense will level the playing field and provide them with an opportunity to stop the rapes and sexual assaults they are currently powerless against.
Think Progress opposes this. In so doing, they stand with Salon, Shannon Watts, Everytown for Gun Safety, and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, all of whom have voiced their opposition to arming women for self-defense.
Think Progress takes the opposition a step further, however, in that they try to derail the campus carry momentum by suggesting the GOP is actually “blaming victims of sexual assault” for not being armed. But nothing could be further from the truth.
The GOP is not blaming victims, rather, they are blaming the Democrat legislators, governors, school board members, and media outlets, who espouse women’s rights on the one hand, then deny women the most basic right of protecting their own lives and dignity on the other. Understood in this light, campus carry is a remedy for the left’s war on women.
