Citizens United has filed a new lawsuit against the U.S. State Department regarding “long-lingering freedom of information requests,” in effect asking the judge to compel them “to respond to four separate requests seeking documents that were filed in May and July of last year.
Those included a request for correspondence between Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, and officials at the Teneo Consulting firm.
According to a Washington Post report, a former aide to Bill Clinton, Doug Band, founded Teneo, which employed Abedin while she was also at the State Department.
Another request sought correspondence between Abedin and officials with the Clinton Foundation and another sought records showing correspondence between Clinton’s chief of staff, Cheryl Mills, and officials with the Clinton Foundation. The group indicated that the State Department has released no documents in response to any of the requests.
Additionally, Friday “a federal judge ruled in a separate suit filed by Citizens United that the State Department must begin releasing passenger manifests from overseas trips taken by Clinton during her four years in office.”
Citizens United filed an FOIA request pursuant to that information in July, then sued when the State Department failed to respond by December.
