On March 17, Gabby Giffords will be at the Connecticut state Capitol with Governor Dannel Malloy (D) to push for the passage of a gun laws that were actually “enacted 15 years ago.”
The law being pushed by Giffords would “require subjects of a restraining or protective order to surrender their firearms and ammunition within 24 hours of being notified of the order.” But state Representative Arthur O’Neil (R-69) says such a law was put into place 15 years ago and that the law enacted then is better than the law Giffords is pushing now.
According KTAR News, O’Neil said, “There’s a law on the books right now where you can get the kind of protection that you need.” He said “It’s a better law” than Giffords is pushing, adding, “It’s a better written law that does a better job.”
But pushing gun control laws that already exist in some shape or form is nothing new for Giffords. In September, Breitbart News reported that she and her husband Mark Kelly were calling for laws against gun trafficking. Of course, laws against gun trafficking are already on the books.
And on March 4, Breitbart News reported that Giffords was pushing to expand background checks to gun shows so everyone would have to pass the background check her attacker passed to get his gun in 2010.
These background checks have been in place since the mid-1990s and were passed by Jerad and Amanda Miller (Las Vegas), Aaron Ybarra (Seattle Pacific University), Elliot Rodger (Santa Barbara), Ivan Lopez (Fort Hood 2014), Darion Marcus Aguilar (Maryland mall), Karl Halverson Pierson (Arapahoe High School), Paul Ciancia (LAX), Aaron Alexis (DC Navy Yard), James Holmes (Aurora theater), Jared Loughner (Tucson), Nidal Hasan (Fort Hood 2009), and Naveed Haq (Seattle), among many others.
