President Barack Obama will arrive in Los Angeles just in time for primetime rush hour Thursday. He will be attending a Democratic National Committee fundraiser and pre-taping a TV segment for “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in Burbank. Santa Monica and Hollywood will also be affected.
This past October, his arrival in Los Angeles to attend a star-studded fundraiser at the home of movie star Gwyneth Paltrow caused tremendous unrest among motorists.
Paltrow, unaffected, famously gushed to the commander in chief that he is “so handsome that I can’t speak properly.”
On Thursday, a travel advisory has been issued to help Angelenos avoid mounting frustration with the city’s already-exacerbated traffic problem. Patch.com has aggregated a list of streets that will be closed and streets to avoid on Thursday and Friday for the duration of Obama’s visit:
Thursday road closures:
Los Angeles
- Hollywood Boulevard between North Orange Drive and North Highland Avenue (4:25 – 5:45 p.m.);
- Hawthorn Avenue between North Orange Drive and North Highland Avenue;
- Sepulveda Boulevard between Lincoln and Century boulevards for an eight-minute span (3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.);
Santa Monica:
- Hard closures on 20th Street between Marguerita and Carlyle Avenues (4:00 – 7:30 p.m.);
- 19th Street between Marguerita and Carlyle Avenues (6:15 – 7:30 p.m.)
Burbank:
- North and southbound Hollywood Way will be fully closed between Empire Avenue and Glenoaks Boulevard (4:00 – 5:30 p.m.)
Patch notes that the LAPD is recommending that motorists avoid the following areas in general:
- Sepulveda Boulevard between Lincoln and Century boulevards (3:00 – 5:00 p.m.);
- North Hollywood Way between West Empire Avenue and North Glenoaks Boulevard (3:30 – 5:00 p.m.);
- Sheldon Street between Roscoe Boulevard and San Fernando Road (3:30 – 5:00 p.m.);
- Highland Avenue between the Hollywood Bowl and Sunset Boulevard and surrounding area (4:00 – 6:00 p.m.);
- Ocean Avenue between Pico and San Vicente boulevards and surrounding area (4:00 – 7:30 p.m.);
- San Vicente Boulevard between Ocean Avenue and 25th Street and surrounding area (4:00 – 7:30 p.m.);
- Overland Avenue between National Place and Tennessee Avenue and surrounding area (7:00 – 8:30 p.m.);
- West Pico Boulevard between Overland Avenue and Century Park East and surrounding area (7:00 – 8:30 p.m.);
- Avenue of the Stars between West Pico and West Olympic boulevards (7 – 8:30 p.m.).
In lieu of Obama’s departure from L.A. on Friday at 10:15 a.m., is it suggested that motorists avoid the following areas between 6:00 and 8:00 a.m. that day:
- West Pico Boulevard between Avenue of the Stars and Westwood Boulevard
- Overland Avenue between West Olympic Boulevard and National Boulevard
- South Centinela Avenue between Pico and Ocean Park Boulevards
