During a interview with Sen. Ted Cruz, Iowa Radio Show Host Jan Mickelson joked about the Texas senator’s wife Heidi, who works for Goldman Sachs.
While discussing economics, Cruz explained that he grew up reading economists such as Ludwig von Mises, Friedrich Hayek, and Milton Friedman.
“So why did you marry the enemy then?” Mickelson interrupted.
Cruz laughed and paused, as Mickelson chuckled.
“You married a banker … she’s a great looking banker, I hasten to add, very nice lady too by the way,” Mickelson continued.
“She’s beautiful, she is brilliant, you know she’s actually the child of missionaries in Africa,” Cruz said.
Mickelson continued the exchange, marveling that “missionaries gave birth to a banker.”
“Look, Jesus said that look, you send the physician among the sick, and you go amongst the sinners,” Cruz joked.
“Which one of you is the missionary?” Mickelson laughed.
Cruz admitted that his wife a banker, married him – a lawyer who then turned into a politician. He pointed out that his father would often say that while his son was on the East Coast, he was doing “missionary work.”
“There’s some real truth to that,” Cruz added.
