Chicago had its first warm weather of the year over the March 6 weekend, but as that warm weather returned, so did the violence, shootings, and death. Chicago police reported that 2 stabbings and 15 shootings occurred in their warming city; three died as a result.
The first two deaths occurred early on Saturday morning when two were killed in the Pilsen neighborhood.
Two men, one 18 the other 22, were shot as they sat in a car at around 1:30AM. Both perished in what police said was a gang-related crime.
Later that day, a 40-year-old man was stabbed to death by a man who walked up to him on the street. It was reported that the victim knew his attacker. The attacker was arrested.
In another stabbing, a 22-year-old woman was stabbed on Sunday in what police reported as an incident of domestic violence. Her condition is listed as good.
Sunday morning, a man was shot in the face and is currently in serious condition at Northwestern Hospital.
Among the other shootings, a teen was wounded. A 16-year-old was shot in the knee as he stood on the sidewalk in the Woodlawn neighborhood.
In comparison, over the same weekend last year, 11 were shot but none perished.
Thus far in the Windy City this year, there have been 215 shootings from which 48 victims have died. There have been 8 additional homicides from other causes since the start of the year.
