Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) stated that “I don’t think it’s all bad to consider that [Hillary Clinton] would be the nominee” on Thursday’s “Sean Hannity Show.”
Paul said that Clinton’s actions before the attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya were a problem for her because “when you don’t provide defense for our embassy, or our consulate when you’re requested for nine months to do so, I think it should preclude her from even being considered because really it’s the one that’s unique about being commander-in-chief is you have to defend the country.”
He continued, “more than the e-mails, I’m concerned with taking foreign donations from foreign governments,” which he alleged violated the Constitution, (likely a reference to the Emoluments Clause of Article I, Section 9).
Paul concluded that Clinton probably would be the nominee “if her health holds up,” adding “but, I don’t think it’s all bad to consider that she would be the nominee because I think what she considers to be her strength, foreign policy, is precisely her weakness.”
