White House aides directly addressed a news story that President Obama threatened to shoot down Israeli jets, drawing attention to the troubled relationship between the two countries.
Citing an unnamed Israeli minister, a Kuwaiti newspaper reported Saturday that Obama “thwarted an Israeli military attack against Iran’s nuclear facilities in 2014 by threatening to shoot down Israeli jets before they could reach their targets in Iran.”
After that story was headlined on the Drudge Report on Sunday, it drew a quick response from the White House National Security Twitter account.
“Like a lot rumors lately about Iran talks, there is no truth to ‘reports’ about Obama & Israeli jets,” the response read.
When reached for comment, a spokesperson for the White House National Security Council had little to add to the tweet, telling Breitbart News that the story was “completely false.”
