On February 27, a North Lauderdale, Florida, homeowner shot and killed an alleged home intruder trying to break into the house.

According to the Sun Sentinel, the homeowner saw the suspect trying to break into the storage shed in the backyard. The suspect then allegedly transitioned to the house, and the homeowner “fired multiple shots,” killing him.

Neighbors say there has been an uptick in people climbing fences for mischief, and a home in the neighborhood was recently burglarized, but police indicate crime in 2014 was less than 2013.

This is the first time neighbors remember a homeowner shooting a suspect, much less killing one.

Seventy-one-year-old Boysie Hanson retired in 2008 and moved from Maryland to Florida. He lives in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred and says he may now purchase a gun.
