Federal government offices in Washington D.C. are closed today after a winter storm dumped about six inches of snow in the area last night.
The decision to close the government was posted by the federal Office of Personal and Management at about 9:30 p.m. Monday during the early stages of the storm.
Although the federal offices in the Washington area are closed, emergency and telework-ready employees are required to work, following their agency’s policies, according to the OPM.
The White House canceled the daily press briefing this morning, citing “inclement weather.” The National Weather Service reported 4.1 inches of snow at the White House at 2:55 a.m.
Vice President Joe Biden has canceled a planned trip to Baltimore as a result of the weather, according to his office.
According to Washington news station WTOP, Metrobus service has been suspended and the Metro is running on a Saturday schedule.
