House Speaker John Boehner has some fiery words for Senate Democrats who are preventing a Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill from coming to the Senate floor.
“The House has done its job,” Boehner told reporters Wednesday. “Now why don’t you go ask the Senate Democrats when they are going to get off their ass and do something other than to vote ‘no!'”
Last week Senate Democrats blocked a House-passed DHS funding bill that blocks President Obama’s executive amnesty from coming to the floor three times.
With the issue at an apparent standstill in the Senate, on Tuesday a number of Senators, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, said that matter is now back in the House’s court.
Not so, Boehner argued Wednesday.
“The House did its job. We won the fight to fund the Department of Homeland Security and stop the president’s unconstitutional acts. Now its time for the Senate to do their work,” he said.
The House Speaker further highlighted the fact that some of the Senate Democrats voting against bringing the bill to the floor have criticized Obama’s executive actions.
“The issue here is not Senate Republicans. The issue here is Senate Democrats — seven of whom criticized the president’s executive overreach on immigration and yet they continue to block consideration of the bill,” he said.
Of McConnell trying to kick the matter back to the House, Boehner said “I love Mitch. He has a tough job to do and so do I.”
