On February 5 ,Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America announced the “102nd school shooting since Newtown”–the problem is that shooting they referenced was a gang shooting that happened at nighttime.

The incident took place about 8 pm at Maryland’s Frederick High School. And the two persons who were wounded–ages 14 and 15–were from Gov. Thomas Johnson High School. There was a JV basketball game going on inside Frederick High School at the time. The two persons who were wounded were outside the school building when the incident took place.

According to the Associated Press,  “sources…[indicate] both boys called themselves members of a gun known as the ‘PA Mob.'” The “PA Mob” has a running dispute with rival gang “CA,” which stands for Carver Apartments.

After news of the incident broke, Moms Demand Action posted the following announcement to their Facebook page:

Our sincerest thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims’ families today, as well as with the students and staff who endured such a horrific experience. This is the 102nd school shooting since Newtown.

Moms Demand Action’s list of school shootings since Newtown is congruent with the list presented by Everytown for Gun Safety, and Breitbart News previously reported that this list counts non-school shootings, accidental discharges of legally possessed guns, and non-existent shootings, as school shootings. So it is no surprise that they would count a nighttime gang-related incident as a school shooting, but that does not make it correct.
