The U.S. Attorney’s office in New Jersey has denied reports that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is under investigation.
“Any characterization that we are investigating the Governor about this is just not true… [W]e talk to people all the time. It doesn’t mean we’re investigating anybody,” he said.
Ben Barlyn, cited prominently in initial reports of an investigation is now on record saying, “I’ve never characterized this as a full-blown investigation.” Barlyn, a former Hunterdon County Assistant Prosecutor has claimed he was fired by Christie administration for objecting to the dismissal of indictments against allies of Christie.
While the NJ Attorney’s office wouldn’t confirm or deny speaking with Barlyn, they did say it would be a “tremendous leap forward” to claim there is an ongoing investigation of Christie, adding, “Any characterization that we are investigating the governor about this is just not true.”
