Thursday on NewsmaxTV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show,” former communications director for President Ronald Reagan and conservative commentator Pat Buchanan slammed President Barack Obama for comments he made at the National Prayer breakfast.
While speaking about ISIS and Islamic terrorism, Obama said, “Unless we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember during the Crusades and Inquisition people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ. In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow was all to often justified in the name of Christ.”
Buchanan said, “He’s trying to bring moral equivalency to what happened in the 11th century and to what happened today. Astonishing.”
“I can’t think of any, you know, atrocities that have really been committed, really in the name of Christ and the New Testament. There is no justification anywhere in all the books of the New Testament for any kind violence on the scale that we just saw with that Jordanian pilot.”
“I think the president of the Untied States has a real problem with the cold hard truth and the reality of our time. Which is that there is an element in the Islamic community worldwide which has awakened. Which has embarked on a global crusade of its own to conquer western countries first, then Arab and Muslim countries, and impose upon them Sharia law, and to expel the Christians, to expel the Jews, to expel the non believers.”
“Can the president not see the reality of his own time, that he’s got to retreat centuries to find some sort of what he thinks might be a moral equivalency?” And to call Jim Crow, I mean which was a form of segregation of racists, to say that was rooted in Christianity, seems to me, is an absurdity and injustice.” he concluded.
