Toomey: Obama Not Trying to Prevent Iran From Getting a Nuke

Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) told Philadelphia radio host Dom Giordano that the Obama administration “is no longer trying to prevent Iran from having a nuclear weapon,” according to reports.

“He is heading toward an agreement that will tolerate an Iran with a nuclear weapon,” said Toomey. “At our banking committee just last week the deputy secretary of state who testified before us indicated that no longer is it the administration’s position that the goals of these negotiations are to prevent Iran from having nuclear weapons. That is what the President stated a year ago. Now, the goal is to make sure that if Iran does actually flip the switch, and proceed to make a nuclear bomb, that we’ll have twelve months heads-up notice. That is outrageous. That is on record. That is true.”

Toomey said he views the situation as so “dangerous,” it’s necessary for Congress to get involved, according to CBS Philly:

While he believes that the President’s foreign policy is “just out of step with the American people and the U.S. Senate” and Obama is trying to “diminish American influence around the world”, Toomey also disagrees with actions on the domestic front, such as the nomination of Loretta Lynch for Attorney General and her thoughts on the President’s immigration executive orders.

“Something that I think is more important than the qualifications or lack thereof of a particular nominee and that is this. Whether or not the U.S. Senate is going to stand up for the principle that our constitution has to be followed and that no President is above the law. No President has the authority to write is own law. So, when I hear this candidate to be attorney general responding to questions in which she is perfectly happy to give cover to a President who is acting illegally, I don’t see how I can support that nominee. “
