Michelle Obama Praises ‘American Sniper’

While there have been plenty of liberal critics of the movie “American Sniper,” First Lady Michelle Obama is not one of them.

During an screenwriters event at the National Geographic Society, the First Lady praised the movie for its accurate portrayal of the struggles that veterans experience. 

“I had a chance to see ‘American Sniper’ this week on that long flight we took,” she said, referring to her recent trip to India. “And while I know there have been critics, I felt that, more often than not, this film touches on many of the emotions and experiences that I’ve heard firsthand from military families over these past few years.”

She pointed out that the movie accurately reflected the “wrenching stories” and “complex journeys” experienced by warriors.

“Here’s why a movie like this is important:  See, the vast majority of Americans will never see these stories,” she added. “They will never grasp these issues on an emotional level without portrayals like this.”

As First Lady, she explained, she had met many wounded fighters and listened to their stories and struggles.

“Let me tell you, those experiences have changed me.  They have changed me,” she said. “They’ve made me want to do everything I can to support our troops, veterans and their families.”
