Bill Burton, a prominent political aide to Barack Obama, has been hired by SDKnickerbocker to head its new Los Angeles office, a plum position that signals the enduring influence–and burgeoning affluence–of Obama campaign alumni.
Burton is notorious for founding Priorities USA, the Obama campaign Super PAC that spent $75 million in independent expenditures for the president’s re-election campaign in 2012. Among Burton’s more notorious efforts was the Super PAC’s attempt to blame Republican Mitt Romney for the death of a former worker’s wife from cancer. The Super PAC was widely suspected of coordinating with the Obama campaign, which repeated many of the same discredited claims in its own ads.
At the time, a top Democrat said that Burton should “go back to ethics school.”
Burton, a frequent panelist in media debates, has also defended Obama on topics such as the Benghazi scandal, saying Susan Rice had been vindicated.
