A Texas grade school is under fire for subjecting kids to an underwear search after teachers found feces on a gym floor.
Students at the Gustine Independent School District, some of them only 11-years-old, were required to drop their pants as school authorities sought the identity of the student who defiled the gym floor. But many parents felt that the underwear search went too far.
Student Eliza Medina, 11, told Fort Worth media that the boys and girls were separated into different rooms where teachers demanded that they “pull down their pants to check them to see if they could find anything.”
Eliza’s mother was furious over the school’s actions.
“I was furious… I mean, I was furious,” the girl’s mother said. “If you can’t do your job or you don’t know what you’re doing, you need to be fired. You shouldn’t be here.”
School authorities reported that this wasn’t the first time that feces was found on the floors at the school.
But District Superintendent Ken Baugh admitted that it was all very badly handled. “That’s not appropriate, and we do not condone that. So you would take disciplinary action,” he said.
The superintendent promised parents he would look into the situation. “Maybe we can find a much better way to solve this,” he said.
