Former New York City mayoral candidate and founder of the “Rent is too damn high” party, Jimmy McMillan, is facing eviction from his $872-a-month rent stabilized East Village apartment, although it’s apparently not because the rent is too high.
McMillan has filed suit in Brooklyn Federal Court in an effort to stop the eviction, currently set for Feb. 5. He’s acting as his own lawyer and seeking $1.3 million in damages.
His landlord, Lisco Holdings LLC, claims “the one-bedroom flat on St. Marks Place wasn’t McMillan’s primary residence, and that he actually lives in Brooklyn.”
The 68-year-old Vietnam War vet McMillan says the Brooklyn address is just an office and that “he lived in the Manhattan apartment with his son, Jimmy 4, who is now in the Army.”
McMillan also claims he has nowhere to go if evicted.
