The midterms are long over, but President Barack Obama is still offering his voice to a political campaign.
Monday, Chicago residents will begin hearing a 60-second radio ad featuring Obama endorsing Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s reelection.
“Before Rahm Emanuel was mayor of Chicago, he was a key part of my team at the White House and let’s be honest — at times the guy can be a little hard-headed,” Obama says in the ad.
“There’s a reason Rahm fights as hard as he does – he loves our city, and he believes every child in every neighborhood should have a fair shot at success,” Obama continues
In the radio ad Obama highlights his own Chicago background and Emanuel’s campaigns for jobs, longer school days, and a higher minimum wage in the city.
Emanuel’s campaign noted that Obama also appeared in campaign ads for the former White House chief of staff when he was first elected in 2011.
The mayoral election is February 24 and Emanuel faces four challengers.
The radio ad comes amid speculation that the race could result in a run off between county commissioner Jesus “Chuy” Garcia and Emanuel, if the incumbent is unable to garner more than 50 percent of the vote.
