Tuesday night during his State of the Union address, in contrast to recent news reports, President Barack Obama claimed ISIS is being stopped in Syria.
Obama said, “At the same time, we have learned some costly lessons over the last 13 years. Instead of Americans patrolling the valleys of Afghanistan, we have trained their security forces who have now taken the lead. We have honored our troops sacrifices by supporting that country’s first democratic transition. Instead of sending large ground forces overseas, we are partnering with nations from South Asia to North Africa to deny safe haven to terrorists that threaten America. In Iraq and Syria, American leadership, including our military power, is stopping ISIL’s advance. Instead of getting dragged into another war in the Middle East, we are leading to destroy the terrorist groups.”
