CBS Poll: 44 Percent of GOP Voters Don’t Want Chris Christie to Run

A new CBS poll found that 59 percent of Republicans say they want 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to enter the 2016 presidential race, and 50 percent of GOP voters said they want former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush to run.

Conversely, 44 percent of Republicans said they do not want New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to enter the Republican primary. Only 29 percent said they want Christie to run.

Several candidates received interest from GOP voters who said they “don’t know enough to say” for sure whether they want them to run. These included: Dr. Ben Carson, Sen. Rand Paul, Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Marco Rubio, Gov. Robby Jindal, and Gov. Scott Walker.

“A majority of Republicans nationwide say they do not know enough about six of the 13 Republicans in the poll to say whether they should run for president,” reports CBS News.

The poll also surveyed Democratic voters to gauge their candidate preferences. Not surprisingly, former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton emerged the clear favorite. Of the seven Democratic candidates the poll mentioned to respondents, five received a majority “don’t know enough to say” response.

The poll, which was conducted January 9-12, had a +/-6 percent margin of error.
