Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) reported that former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney had reached out to her about running for president in 2016 and said that Romney “comes in as a strong candidate” and that she told him “good for you for getting back in” on Tuesday’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto” on the Fox News Channel.
“He [Romney] has reached out to me. He’s very enthusiastic. When I spoke to him the other day on the phone. Listen, no question, very qualified, he’s someone who you think about this national security issue and what happened in some of the debates where the president claimed that al Qaeda had been decimated. I think he feels vindicated on many of those issues with Russia invading Ukraine. That said, we’re going to have a vigorous primary, and in New Hampshire, even having been the nominee before, he is going to have to talk to New Hampshire voters about what is his vision now for America, for the middle class, and making sure that America continues to be the land of opportunity. I think there’s a lot of concern people have there, and also on these national security issues. So, he comes into this as a strong candidate but he’s going to have to work like everyone else” she stated.
Ayotte added, “we had a brief conversation, and I certainly said, you know, ‘good for you for getting back in,’ and we talked a lot about the dynamics in New Hampshire.”
