Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) said that he will make his decision to run for president “irrespective” of whether or not former Florida Governor Jeb Bush chooses to run and that he will not seek the presidency and re-election to his Senate seat simultaneously on Monday’s “Hannity” on the Fox News Channel.
Asked whether a Jeb Bush candidacy would impact Rubio’s decision, he responded “no, it doesn’t, and it’s not just Jeb, it’s anybody who runs. When you decide that the best place for you to serve your country is to run for President of the United States, I think that’s a decision you make irrespective of who else might be in the race.”
Rubio also said that one factor in his decision would be “what impact will it have on your family.”
He was also asked “if you run for president, you’re not going to run for the Senate again, so you’d make a decision to run for president or Senate?” To which he stated “yep, that’s right.”
He also discussed the importance of allowing American families to have a shot at working their up way up the economic ladder and dismissed the ideas of Hillary Clinton as “wrong” and “of an era that’s come and gone.” Rubio added that “I think you find some of that [outdated ideas] in our party as well. We need 21st century ideas and solutions.”
The interview concluded with a talk about Rubio’s position on immigration, Rubio declared “bottom line is, I saw a problem that needs to be fixed, it still needs to be fixed. And the only way we’re going to be able to fix it is by first and foremost, being able to enforce our immigration laws. People don’t want to talk about anything else, that’s the biggest lesson from that experience that I took away” and that “they’re [the American people] not prepared to talk about anything else until that happens, they just don’t trust the federal government to do that.”
