Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS), the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), indicated that Republicans leaders will have a debate about potentially giving citizenship to so-called DREAMers in this Congress.
“I think the first thing we’ll do is a strong border security bill,” Wicker recently said on Sunday’s CNN’s State of the Union. “But I think once we do that, we will have a debate in this term of Congress about what to do with those children who came through no decision of their own and what’s the best way to handle that issue. I think we’ll have that debate.”
In the last Congress, then-House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) lost his primary to Dave Brat because of his support for his “Kids Act,” which would have given citizenship to “children who came through no decision of their own.”
Despite the incessant pro-amnesty spin from establishment Republicans like Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), post-election polling showed that Cantor lost his race primarily because of amnesty and the Tea Party’s opposition to him.
